Poem: Summer In January

We’ve been experiencing unseasonably warm temperatures here in upstate New York the last few days. On Saturday it was 60 degrees.

It’s summer in January
And not yet spring
Bugs are buzzing
Birds starting to sing

It’s summer in January
January the 12th
Winter coats hung up
Gloves on the shelf

Shovels lean useless
Tucked in a corner
Days bubble like liquid
Warmer and warmer

“It feels strange,” says Michael
He stands at the window
“It’s climate change-”
He gives me a look. “I know.”

“This shouldn’t be happening…”
“I know, but it is.”
“Think of Australia
Warmer than this.”

The animals are burning
The woods filled with fear
It’s only January
The start of the year

Death in the middle east
(We’ll see how that goes)
As snow turns to mud
and poverty grows

It’s summer in January
Let’s go for a walk
Pretend we’re not restless
While we have a long talk

We’ll say we’re thankful
It’s not bitterly cold
But it’s summer in January
Where is the snow?

Poem: Dandelion

I know it’s been a while since I’ve been on here. Five whole months…can it really be? This poem is just silliness. I rarely get a chance to write silly things anymore. Work keeps me busy, but I’ve also been focusing on longer and bigger projects. Before, I used to find myself using blogging as a distraction instead of facing my fear and sitting down to the page. So, the hiatus is not a bad thing. But I’m still here. I will post my silliness, if and when I get the chance. 🙂
I hope everyone is well. Happy Writing!
The life of a dandelion
lasts a few days
one day to burst open
as yellow sun rays

they claim a whole yard
the puffiest of weeds
until time tells them
to dissolve into seeds

Poem: Ants

Wrote this one while in the shower, haha. And yes, I do have aqua notes for the shower. Because everyone needs a waterproof notepad to write on!

ants in the tiles

beneath your toes

they crawl between your smile

and shuffle in your nose

next, they’re doing the hula

on your bathroom sponge,

they’re shimmying, they’re shaking

having loads of fun!

Poem: When Spring Time Comes

We emerge from hibernation
Pale creatures shedding our winter coats
We sniff the warm air cautiously
Is that a bee that just floated by my head?

Spring time fuzzes are mysterious buggies
And many a headache and plugged noses
We realize how ugly the trees look
Without their coverings
All grey and scraggly and worn out

At last, we think, some green and flowers
Blue skies and picnics in the sun
We hope for a long spring and summer

We hope for thunderstorms and ice tea
And listening to the skies when it rains
Mostly we hope for how it was
Before winter came to us

Spring Continued

Went for a walk this evening – I am enjoying this warmer weather so, so much! 🙂 Took a few pics that I thought were cool, so thought I’d share. Enjoy!

Went for a walk in the woods next to my house…looked up and thought the trees looked pretty neat, the shapes of the branches and the twisty vines.

Blue sky peeks through the dusky cloud cover and adds more color to an already beautiful sky, as a plane streaks through and leaves a trail of white.

Taking a rest on a fallen branch at the edge of the ravine. Yep, that’s my shoe. Was thinking this would be a great place to do that writing thing that I like to do. 😉

Over all, had a great day. Hope everyone had a great Sunday! Here’s hoping the rest of the week is just as warm and goes by just as fast!

Spring is finally here!!

Well, it’s already April and I realize its been almost a month since I posted last! Holy crap! Where does the time go?

Thought I take this lazy time on a Saturday night to do a quick update. Tired myself cleaning and doing errands today, so naturally it is time to relax, get on facebook, and write (theoretically). :p

Me in Tampa, leaning against a palm tree. (From my trip earlier this winter.) I kinda wish I was there now!

Long story short: I started a new job, which has kept me occupied for the past month or so. It pays much more than the other job I had this winter, so here’s hoping I can start saving money this summer. I am basically a Collector, so if you have defaulted on your student loans – beware! I’ll be like: Give me your money, fool! 😉

It’s great to have a job where I can start saving money, but I haven’t written anything in about a month. (sad face) This new job has taken up all my energy and my focus. I’m hoping once I know what I am doing, the stress factor will go down and I won’t be so exhausted at the end of the day. :/

More beachy scenes from pretty Tampa.

In the back of my mind though, I still dream and I still plan. My characters are still there waiting, the story still yet undiscovered. And then I remember all the short stories that I have started and have yet to finish. The short stories that I hope to see in print someday…Spring is all about new beginnings though, right?

Spring has arrived finally, even if there is still a chill in the air. And I’m thinking: Move out of the way winter, it is time for the fun stuff to happen!
