POEM: When a Dog Works

Author’s Note:

I am very lucky in my current situation to be able to work from home. My heart goes out to those who work in essential jobs who are more and more at risk everyday. It’s been stressful for all of us. Our chocolate lab, Koda, has been providing the entertainment here. He might not be the most well-behaved co-worker sometimes, but he is definitely our free-lance therapy dog right now. Below is just silliness.

Stay safe everyone!

Amanda

When a dog works
It’s all about play
He sits near your chair
As you begin your day

Somehow, his ball makes
its way on your desk
His wet nose touches your elbow
You tell him to rest

Just when it’s quiet
You have to go pee
Of course, he has to come along
(In case there’s something to see)

Back in the office
You answer a call
He gets stuck under the desk
While getting his ball

He looks up at you
With a big doggy grin
Wagging his tail
Let’s do it again

And again

And again

And again

Poem: Blue

I recently started going to a writer’s group that meets every Wednesday since September. The class will soon end, but it’s been a lot of fun. One of tonight’s prompts gave us the word “blue.” The word “blue” made me think of the ocean which made me think of seashells, which in turn made me think of the beach.

I’d love to be on a beach right now with the warm sand under my feet, the ocean waves, a musical relaxation…this is the poem I came up with:

I’d like to write about an ocean day
where you can stick your toes in the sand
the waves make music, the birds will cry
where you shed away the day’s demands

Each ocean wave is a symphony
of blues and greens
an orchestra of ups and downs
the sand between toes
an artist’s dream
a blanket of softness, surrounds

Observe the birds, the bright blue sky
the curve where the land meets the water
watch the day’s demons go floating by
You forgot your swim suit? Ohh, it doesn’t matter!”

Your beach is private, your view is too
and your thoughts can go on forever and ever
There’s no limit to what you can do
you can tackle any endeavor!

To own my own beach, is a glorious thought
to find myself there, is better
one is a dream, possibly bought
Reality is quite a bit wetter
